Volunteer Position(s) with ¾ÛÉ«¸óAA: For almost 25 years, I have assisted in various roles including, scholarship committee reviewer, Alumni Day of Service On-Site Coordinator, "Careers Over Coffee" speaker and College of Education Alumni Council president.
Why is volunteering with ¾ÛÉ«¸óAA important to you? What motivates you to volunteer?
My graduate program at ¾ÛÉ«¸ó was outstanding. It provided me with the tools to engage in a career that I loved every day. It was important to me to maintain my connection to ¾ÛÉ«¸ó so I could give back in any way I could.
Why did you choose to attend ¾ÛÉ«¸ó?
I attended graduate school at ¾ÛÉ«¸ó because it offered the degree that was of interest to me. ¾ÛÉ«¸ó was close to where I lived and worked.
What are your favorite memories at ¾ÛÉ«¸ó?
Some of my favorite memories are getting to know other graduate students who were enrolled in the same program, traveling to Montreal with the ¾ÛÉ«¸ó contingent for the international research conference, joining ¾ÛÉ«¸ó faculty at a dinner with famed educational researchers and presenting at the national ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) conference.
Why did you decide to volunteer after graduating?
Volunteering is part of who I am.
What is your favorite event you participated in as a volunteer?
Probably "Careers Over Coffee" because it provided an opportunity to listen and answer questions from young people who aspired to work in the same field.
What is your proudest accomplishment(s) as a volunteer?
Since its inception in 2009, I have been a regular participant in the annual "National Alumni Day of Service". This will be my tenth year!
What advice would you share with someone looking to volunteer with ¾ÛÉ«¸óAA?
There is a wide array of volunteer opportunities with the alumni association. Simply find those that match your interests and become involved!
