Salem Students Receive Top Awards from Kent English Department

¾ÛÉ«¸ó Salem Students Take Home Top English Awards

Three students from the ¾ÛÉ«¸ó Salem Campus were recognized by ¾ÛÉ«¸ó’s English department during the annual student awards ceremony earlier this month.

Derek Shasteen received the prestigious Anna Ulen Engleman Creative Writing Award for his work of poetry. He is a junior English major, taught by Dr. Craig Paulenich, English professor at ¾ÛÉ«¸ó Salem.

Receiving the Bedford St. Martin’s College Writing Essay Awards were Michelle Santini, for placing first in the Tier I level of competition, and Jonathon McCann, placing first in the Tier II level. Santini is a freshman, majoring in nursing, while McCann is a freshman pre-med major. Both were taught by James Winter, English lecturer on the Salem Campus.

The ¾ÛÉ«¸ó Salem students’ works were judged against submissions from students representing all of ¾ÛÉ«¸ó’s campuses.
