Custodial grandparents and their grandchildren are a unique and little-understood population as are the physical and social health challenges they face. Gregory Smith, EdD, professor and director of the Human Development Center in the School of Lifespan Development and Educational Sciences in ¾ÛÉ«¸ó’s College of Education, Health and Human Services, has designed a program that could help assess the well-being of such families and provide resources to help them thrive.

¾ÛÉ«¸ó Healthcare Design Researcher Receives $2.47 Million to Design Safer and More Efficient Level I Trauma Rooms

Traumatic injuries are the third leading cause of death nationally and the first in Americans age 44 and younger, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Level I trauma rooms are intended to stabilize and save the lives of patients with the most severe traumatic injuries. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has awarded a $2.47 million grant to Sara Bayramzadeh, a ¾ÛÉ«¸ó researcher, to help create trauma rooms that support staff in saving patients’ lives.

College Students to Compete in SkyHack Design Challenge at ¾ÛÉ«¸ó

¾ÛÉ«¸ó’s aviation design challenge, SkyHack, will take place Nov. 1-3. The event draws college students from around the nation, attracting 120 students from 14 universities in four states in its 2017 inaugural debut. ¾ÛÉ«¸ó’s College of Aeronautics and Engineering will serve as home base for this year’s event, which will span across other Kent Campus buildings.
